An investigation is underway to determine exactly what happened. The toddler's body has been taken to a forensic institute in Granada where the cause of death will be verified.
The emergency services confirmed the father had made his frantic call at 11am this morning and that the police, rescue helicopter, Civil Guard and medical team had all been called out.
It is understood that at one stage, the ambulance helicopter either flew or was about to fly the boy to hospital though the sequence of events is still unclear.
No details have been given about the boy's identity except for confirmation of his British nationality.
It is believed the family lived on the rural property because the father was working on the land around the house.
