Cedar Beach Pool Lost Water For Days Ahead Of October Opening

A cracked pipe at Allentown’s newly renovated Cedar Beach Pool leaked for days before a crew capped it.

City spokesman Mike Moore said Thursday a “leak” was discovered when the filtration system was turned on Oct. 2 or 3. Within days, crews discovered the source of the leak, a crack in a pipe that returns water to the pool from the filtration system. The pipe was capped Friday, stopping the leak.

A city employee said Wednesday thousands of gallons were lost, but it’s unclear how many.

The pool used 521,900 gallons of water between June 1 and Sept. 29, the period in which the pool was initially filled, plus two days, according to Lehigh County Authority records obtained via a Right-to-Know request.
